Eftersom jag har en hel del bilder från Henrys hus, vill jag gärna visa dem.

Since I have a lot of pictures from Henry's house, I would like to show them to you.

Jag brukar skryta med att jag varit ned om att slå in ett spik i Henrys hus. Det är emellertid en överdrift. Henry slog i spiket från utsidan, medan jag höll emot med en större hammare på insidan. Man gör så, innan man fått upp tillräckligt mycket av väggarna, då inget speciellt stadgar, då man spikar.

I usually brag that I did drive a nail into Henry's house. However, that is an exaggeration. Henry hit the nail from the outside, while I resisted with a larger hammer on the inside. You do so, before you have enough of the walls, to give support when hammering.

Jag har redan beskrivit Henrys hus, som att man kommer in i en liten tambur, som direkt angränsar till det första rummet. På höger hand hade man köket och sovrummet med våningssängar för Henrys pojkar Bert och Sven. På andra sidan köket var ett utedass, som man gick in i utifrån. Det berömda spiket, som jag slog in, var den nordöstra stolpen till dasset, där huset från början slutade.

I have already described Henry's house, as entering a small hall, which is directly adjacent to the first room. On the right hand side was the kitchen and the bedroom with bunk beds for Henry's boys Bert and Sven. On the other side of the kitchen was an outdoor toilet, which you entered from the outside. The famous nail, which I struck, was the northeastern pillar of the toilet, where the house originally ended.

Då vatten kom till byn, stängdes ytterdörren till dasset, varpå en innerdörr togs upp till toaletten, som då gjordes dubbelt så stor. Även en dusch installerades.

When water supply came to the village, the front door to the toilet was closed, whereupon an inner door was made to the toilet. At the same time the toilet was made twice as big. A shower was also installed.

Senare, då Henry gift om sig med Hjördis, byggdes ett större rum till, på andra sidan köket. Under detta grävdes källare. I källaren fanns arbetsbänk, dusch och varmvattenberedare.

Later, when Henry remarried to Hjördis, another larger room was built, on the other side of the kitchen. Basements were dug during this. In the basement there was a workbench, shower and water heater.

Till vänster om ingången byggdes sedan ett rum, utanpå huset. Det rymde bara en säng. Det var alltså ett gästrum, som kanske användes någon gång.

To the left of the entrance, a room was then built, outside the house. It only contained a bed. So it was a guest room, which may have been used sometime.

Utanpå allt detta byggdes sedan en altan, som man isolerade med plastskivor.

On the outside of all this, a terrace was then built, which was insulated with plastic sheets.

Henry byggde också ett annex, avsett att rymma två bäddar. Men jag är osäker på om någon sov där. Sedan ändrades annexet om till ett galleri. Längre fram blev det endast en redskapsbod.

Henry also built an annex, intended to have two beds. But I'm not sure if anyone ever slept there. Then the annex was changed to be a gallery. Later on, it became only a tool shed.

Morbror Henry var en duktig målare, välkänd i trakten. Varje vår ställde han ut tavlor i Rörums sportklubb, där han bokade hela sidan på ena gaveln i sporthallen. Han var en av dragplåstret där. I dag har jag bara funnit en enda av hans tavlor på nätet.

Uncle Henry was a good artist, painting on canvas, well known in the area. Every spring he exhibited paintings in Rörum's Sports Club, where he booked the whole gable of the sports hall. He was one of the well known artists there. Today, I have found only one of his paintings online.

Här kan man se att Henrys hus slutade vid köket (vid planket). Från vänster: Gustav Almqvists fru Elva, Gustav Pettersson, Alma, Mathilda samt Henry.

I mitten av 1970-talet. Altanen är inte inglasad än. Det som är lagt med sten, kom senare att glasas in. Ovanpå stenen la Henry ett trädäck. Det blå bordet flyttades ut fram annexet. Det som är bakom det bruna staketet är det sista rummet, tillbyggnaden. Bakom staketet är nergången till källaren.

In the mid 1970s. The terrace is not glazed yet. What is laid with stones, was later glazed. On top of the stone, Henry laid a wooden deck. The blue table was moved from the terrace to outside the annex. What is behind the brown fence is the last room, the extension. Behind the fence is the stairs to the basement.

Lägg märke till den vitmålade fjällpanelen och de blåa knutarna. Havet och miljön tog hårt på det vita. Henry, som var noga med att sköta huset, tröttnade på att måla vitt.

Notice the white painted panel and the blue corners of the house. The sea and the environment was a hard life for the white painting. Henry, who was taking very good care of the house, got tired of painting white.

Sekvensen nedan är i slutet av 1970-talet. Altanen är byggd. Henry gjorde en videofilm. En av de unika filmer han gjort. Han lånade en kamera.

The sequence of pictures below is from the late 1970s. The terrace is built. Henry made a video. One of some unique movie recordings he ever made. He borrowed a camera.

Den vita byggnaden är annexet. Det röda är en lekstuga, som tydligen bara var där något år.

The white building is the annex. The Red is a cildrens playhouse, which apparently existed only a few years.

Nedgången till källaren. Vid slagregn vattenfylldes källaren. Henry hade bry med att skydda den. Här är ett försök med plåtdörrar.

The stairs to the basement. In case of heavy rain, the basement was filled with water. Henry worried much about protecting it. Here is an experiment with sheet metal doors.

Jag försökte hålla målarkurser. Då jag fick många elever, hyrde jag skolan, Vigarehuset i Vik. Var det få elever lånade jag Henrys annex. Man kunde ha två elever här. Fönstret bakom mig: utsikt mot hamnen. Fönstret till vänster har utsikt mot Stenshuvud.

I tried to have painting courses. When I got many students, I rented the school, Vigarehuset in Vik. If there were few students, I borrowed Henry's annex. You could have two students here. The window behind me has a view to the harbor. The window on the left has a view of Stenshuvud.
